What we remember

On Memorial Day the flag is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon. It is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.

The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. At noon their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.

Man the lifeboats!

I know April Showers bring May Flowers, but with the amount of rain we have been getting the flowers are going to be huge!

Easter weekend but I’m not going to be outside working on anything.  My poor daffodils are resting their showy crowns on the ground and many tulips have been battered bare of petals.

But some flowers still bravely raise their heads between showers, displaying their colors for the glory of the One who designed them.

Happy Easter.  And may the bunny have a motorboat to make his deliveries.

Real world Ravencatt

I don’t build wildlife habitats only in virtual space.

It’s interesting that I see more wildlife since I moved into town than I did on the 10 acre farm in the middle of hundred acre farms.  Guess the critters had plenty of space there so they didn’t wander into my flowerbeds.

The squirrel living in the tree in front was stuffing his face at the feeder when I pulled in the drive this evening.  He paused to make sure the vehicle was not coming his way and then kept eating until I came lugging the bags of sunflower and peanuts to refill the feeder.

The flowers are gorgeous this year.  Daffodils & tulips.  Irises.  The crocuses and hyacinths have pretty much finished, but the summer flowers ae poking up through already and promising to continue the tradition.

So the butterflies should have plenty to feed them.  My neighbors probably still think I’m slightly demented for plowing up the whole yard to make flowerbeds but I would rather weed than cut grass.  And watching the robins run through the beds and a host of other birds and critters visit…that makes it all worthwhile.

March virtual news

The Farm in Ravencatt (Second Life) is in full Spring.  The bottomlands are no longer flooded. Flowers add color all over.  And the young of various species add their cries to the songbird’s melodies.

The Cherokee/Native areas are locked into that mix of Spring & Summer, but the Farm goes through the seasons.

Everyone welcome to log in, don your avatar, and enjoy a Spring hike…even if your outside window shows a cold Wintery real world yet.

Spring a strong “Maybe”

Daffodils blooming wonderfully…

With snow slowly melting around them.

“Snow” is definitely a four letter word that begins with “S”.

Welcome!

My name is Janice Johnson.  Or if you are in Second Life, I am Teyah Nightfire. Unless I’m managing the SSU sims in SL when I might be SSUCyBear Galaxy or Spice Copperfield.

If that sounds a bit schizo, there is a good reason: I am a professor in Business/IT working with E-commerce, Social Media, and Virtual Worlds.  The line between reality and virtual blurs under those conditions.
