Course Description:

Project management and deployment course with specific emphasis on the control of Information Technology projects. Students will gain familiarity with industry standard methods and technology for project management as they perform significant projects, with minimal supervision.

 

Prerequisites:

• BUIS3200 – Systems Analysis and Design

Course Objectives:

1.       Understand the genesis of project management and its importance to improving the success of information technology projects

2.       Demonstrate knowledge of project management terms and techniques such as:

·          The triple constraint of project management

·          The project management knowledge areas and process groups

·          The project life cycle

·          Tools and techniques of project management such as:

§          Project selection methods

§          Work breakdown structures

§          Network diagrams, critical path analysis, and critical chain scheduling

§          Cost estimates

§          Earned value management

§          Motivation theory and team building

§          Etc.

3.       Apply project management concepts by working on a group project as project manager or active team member

4.       Use Microsoft Project 2007 and other software to help plan and manage a small project

5.       Appreciate the importance of good project management

·          Share examples of good and bad project management

·          Prepare a journal throughout the course for personal reflection

·          Use knowledge and skills developed in this class in other settings

 

 

Class attendance:
The student is expected to attend all classes. If unable to attend a session due to an excused absence, the student should contact the instructor 24 hours before class. It is recognized that emergencies do happen and a student may not be able to contact the instructor prior to class, and in such a case the student should contact the instructor within a reasonable period of time from the missed class.

Academic Integrity:
You are required to do your own work on all tests and assignments. Any form of cheating may result in a grade penalty or the student being withdrawn from the course as well as dismissal from the University. See page 37 of the Shawnee State University catalog.

 

Record Retention:
All student work submitted for a grade will be retained for two weeks after the beginning of the next quarter; after which point all paper work will be shredded and diskettes reformatted.

 

Make-Up Examinations:

Scheduling and availability of make-up examinations is at the discretion of the instructor.
